About Us
Centered around the use of Linen and “sebezz”, a sustainable weed which grows naturally in Ethiopia. We are currently working on integrating modern designs and color combination into the traditional basket weaving technique that has been used in Ethiopia for centuries, to come up with newly styled products that fit the modern living or working space.

The focus of the business is on improving the lives of the local women by using their skills and establishing a viable, high quality basket production industry in Ethiopia. Ararat has already created sustainable job opportunities for almost 100 women in rural areas, and has a big vision to employ up to 5000 women by the year 2035.

Meet the Basket Weavers
All of our basket weavers are women, working to support themselves and their families. We train them, and create job opportunity for women artisans to help them earn better income on their own. And our mission is to empower women and improve the quality of the women’s life.
We also believe that by weaving the baskets in the traditional manner the cultural heritage of basket weaving will be preserved and transferred to the next generation of weavers.
